I think this is c. The estate I bought it from in France thought c. I've seen similar work on c. I've never seen nor found a purse made in this manner, with the convex glass covered compartment into which sentimental craft has been made.
Leather is supple, perhaps an early cordovan, slightly more red on the underside than on the top side. Just a stunning little treasure, memento. I wish we knew more! Very good to excellent condition for age and type. The divided accordion-pleated interior expands as shown. The leather is reddish brown, and remarkably fine for age. No splits anywhere, and the accordion pleated interior compartments are in fine shape, as well. It will open to a depth of nearly 2.Quite an ingeniously crafted item, indeed. It is 3" tall when closed and balloons to 2 5/8" widest. As noted, fully expanded, it is nearly 2 in open depth. I would even wonder if it might be a snuff pouch. Anyone see anything like this one before?
